Bea Carr

Bea Carr (they/she) is a transgender, Brooklyn-based composer currently pursuing their master's degree in composition at NYU Steinhardt, and received their Bachelor’s in Music Composition at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. Through their music, Bea seeks to break music down to its essential parts to capture the inherent sense of fun and play that often becomes obscured in adulthood. By reconciling between process and organicism, Bea aims to discover beauty within patterns, and order within chaos. Through permeative writing, Bea cloaks the listener in fun, rhythmically active textures that unlock harmony through a pointillistic composite. Bea encourages composers, performers, and audiences alike to engage with the community-based process of creating art, through unlocking and liberating one's inner child. Bea has collaborated with many esteemed musicians and ensembles, including the Brazilian National Symphony Orchestra, the Mivos Quartet, Dither, the Rhythm Method, Density512, the Rocky Mountain Chamber Choir, and many more. Additionally, Bea has interned as a composer’s assistant to Brooklyn-based film composer Christopher North, as well as interning in the archival department at Roulette, an experimental music venue in the heart of Brooklyn.
